Nirvana released their third and final studio album In Utero in September 1993. Pat Smear, a former member of The Germs, joined the band in late 1993, and played at their MTV Unplugged concert. On April 8, 1994, frontman Kurt Cobain was found dead at his Lake Washington home in Seattle, Washington. The date of death was determined to be April 5. The cause of death was ruled as suicide by gunshot.
